NEW COMMISSIONS IN STAINED GLASS – Glass and Light

Glass changes in the light by day or night, summer or winter or morning until evening, so the designer has to understand the way that light passes through the window and the direction in relation to the sun, and work with the inner space and the outer environment.

In a place of worship or sacred space the window, although bringing colour and beauty to a building, is not merely decorative but needs to convey meaning and inspire the heart and mind. From the days when a stained glass window was a literal story book to convey the Christian message and teach the tenets of the faith it continues now in the present day as a focus for worship and education, but most often subjects are portrayed in a more contemporary and sometimes quite abstract form.  A new stained glass commission should invite the viewer to create their own relationship with the images and colour, to respond to the mood and form their own very personal relationship with the work.
